MEET THE CRITICS

Think all the social media posts and tweets could save a movie from box office failure? Think Sandra Bullock’s Academy Award winning role was deserved or brought on by an outpour of viral support? Can critics make or break a film? What about the studio’s part in the mayhem?  Hear from local journalists the role the media hype plays in making or breaking a movie.  Led by some of the gang over at the Indiana Film Journalists Association, this discussion is sure to be enlightening whether you’re part of the film industry or just love to read those weekly reviews.

SUNDAY, JULY 18 // 3- 4pm at the IMA

Facilitators: IFJA, the Indiana Film Journalists Association is compromised of a consortium of Hoosier film journalists dedicated to the promotion of quality film. For more information,  visit www.indianafilmcritics.com.

CRITICS VS. FILMMAKERS CAGE MATCH

“They said what?!” might be a common theme amongst filmmakers and movie lovers everywhere when reading some critic’s perception of films. The Indy Film Fest is hosting a bout (err, we mean a lively discussion), looking at five of the more polarizing films in cinema history. We’ll be hearing firsthand from experienced filmmakers ready to defend their craft, as well as representatives from the media armed and ready to handle the critic’s perspective. Presented by the Film Yap (TheFilmYap.com), you won’t want to miss this one.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 21 // 7pm at the IMA Nourish Cafe
