Pope Dreams, the first feature-length
effort by Patrick Hogan, explores the adventures of two young people
on their unknowing journey to discover what life and love truly mean
— the pursuit of dreams and the unselfish concern for others.
Andy Venable (Phillip Vaden) is an aimless 19-year-old,
still living with his family, and playing as a drummer in a metal band
while in limbo. The listlessness isn’t all that together odd,
considering most kids his age are still struggling to “find themselves”
– except that Andy has chosen to take a rather unorthodox approach
to being young (i.e., not thinking only of himself). His mother Kristina
(Julie Hagerty) is suffering from a rare form of cancer, prompting all
of Andy’s actions from that point onward to finding a way to send
his mother to
see the Pope before she dies.
“The theme of the movie is about making decisions
in your life and taking a stand for who you are going to be,”
says Hogan, “It’s about making decisions and being responsible
for who you are.”
