Everyone recognizes the Oscar statue. Awards and film just go hand in hand. Indy Film Fest gives out awards too - but this year we learned the marble trophies we'd been using for years were no longer available. With the old style being discontinued, we decided to mix things up. The idea was to create hand-crafted awards to reflect the personal style of our featured films. Here's the result:
The award art work was silk-screened onto actual birch paper, which absorbed the ink in unexpectedly cool ways. Each award turned out a little different from the next — a one-of-a-kind memento from the 2011 Festival. After adding a simple frame to commemorate the recognition, these festival trophies are ready to hang with their new filmmaker friends.
Huge thanks to our creative partner, Lodge Design for dreaming these up and making it happen!
Last year, the Big Picture Picture Show was one of my favorite events of the year. A whole slew of Indy's best designers and illustrators mingled with art and movie lovers in a packed house at Big Car in an atmosphere that I can only describe as electric. This year it's going to be BIGGER, so we've renamed it... wait for it... The Bigger Picture Show! We're adding a dj and setting up shop in what's sure to be one of Indy's hippest new spots.
Indy Film Fest and Lodge Design present the second annual Bigger Picture Show, featuring nearly 40 local designers re-imagining their very favorite movie posters from every genre and generation. Hosted at Big Car’s latest space, The Service Center will be alive with art, music (provided by Twinpeaks) and a cash bar to complete the evening. Our good friends at YelpIndy will also be on the scene with their soon-to-be-famous Yelpcorn (aka popcorn).
Friday, May 13 | 7:30 p.m.
The Service Center, 3900 Lafayette Road (just north of 38th Street)
Entry is free, but you can RSVP here.
As if the party isn’t reason enough to come by, every poster – professionally printed and framed – will be up for sale. Want a unique piece of movie art in your living room? Arrive early to snag the one and only exhibit copy for just $75. Additional unframed prints will be available for order.
Thanks to our partners helping to make this event happen.

The other day we shared via twitter that we have a new logo - more delightful work from the creative minds over at Lodge Design. When they unveiled the latest to us, our director Lisa summed it up pretty well with an "Ohmygawd, you guys are my favorite."
We wanted to take a moment (longer than 140 characters) to bring the Follow Friday tradition from twitter to our blog. If you aren't already aware of Lodge, get to it. Follow them on twitter & the facebook.
They've been serving up craftiness on everything from our website to Indy Film Fest posters with a special knack for delight and wonderment.
So far, we've been getting great feedback on the logo from far and wide. Thanks for sharing this insightful comment, Tim:
We'll have more to unveil later this year, as Lodge is digging into the look for the 2011 festival. For now, we're focusing on the task of updating all of our properties with the new logo. Why isn't there a find-and-replace function for that?!
