Laura Nagle signed up to volunteer with the Indy Film Fest before she had even moved to Indianapolis! You may have spotted Laura in the box office at the 2013 festival or at one of our successful Film to Fork events this Spring at Indiana Landmarks. Let’s meet Laura…
Q: Where did you grow up and where do you live now?
Laura: I grew up in Chester, New York, and lived in Philadelphia for several years before moving to Indianapolis in 2013.
Q: What year did you start volunteering with the Indy Film Fest?
Laura: I started volunteering with Indy Film Fest in July 2013, right after I moved here.
Q: How did you learn about the Indy Film Fest and what prompted you to get involved?
Laura: I was a fan of the Philadelphia Film Festival and hoped to find a similar event here in Indy. I'm a teacher and was delighted to see that Indy Film Fest takes place during the summer, when I'm available to get more involved! Being new in town, volunteering at the festival has been a great way to meet people and to learn about other local nonprofits and cultural events that I could look forward to over the course of the year.
Q: Please share the best thing or funniest thing that’s happened to you while volunteering with Indy Film Fest.
Laura: My favorite volunteer shift was the time I sold tickets to seven Santa Clauses (featured in They Wore the Red Suit). I don't see how that can be topped.
Q: What was the first movie you saw in a theater?
Laura: I have no idea! I'm sure I've been going to the movies since before I can remember. But the first time I remember really loving the movies -- appreciating the experience of being in the theater and watching a film with a packed house -- was when I was 13 and my mom took me to a double feature of Beauty and the Beast and Father of the Bride.
