| What is the mission of the Indianapolis Film Festival? |
|
The mission of the Indianapolis International Film Festival is to present films that inform, enlighten, and educate the community by providing a vivid reflection of the rich cultural diversity of Indianapolis and the world beyond our doors. Founded in 2004 as a three-day celebration of film, the Indianapolis International Film Festival has since grown to an 11-day, star-studded celebration of movies representing more than 50 nations from around the world. Attendance has skyrocketed by 270% since inception, while competition entries have soared by 716%. THE INDIANAPOLIS INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL, an annual celebration of films and the people who make them, is one of the fastest-growing cultural events in the midwest. Attendance in the first five years has grown from 2,400 to nearly 9,000 - an annual growth rate of nearly 65%. In those five years, the festival has grown from a three-day event with 27 films, to its current 11-day iteration presenting more than 130 films from nearly 40 nations. These numbers make it the largest film festival in the state of Indiana, showcasing more films than any other festival and welcoming more filmmakers and special guests than any other event. In 2007 & 2008 alone, the festival played host to such celebrities as Famke Janssen (star of THE X-MEN TRILOGY, and F/X's NIP/TUCK), Chris Eigeman (star of MALCOLM IN THE MIDDLE and THE LAST DAYS OF DISCO), Dan Butler (star of FRASIER and THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS), Dan Wakefield (Indianapolis-born author of GOING ALL THE WAY), and Academy Award-nominated director Albert Maysles (GIMME SHELTER and GREY GARDENS). Additionally, IIFF films have garnered 15 Academy Award Nominations across several categories, including Best Actress, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Documentary, and Best Foreign Language Film. As IIFF enters the 2nd half of its first decade, they seek the support of companies who are willing to invest in a still-growing event with a diverse, upwardly-mobile, youthful demographic (our average age is nearly 10-years younger than most other arts events in town) - companies like AIR TRAN AIRWAYS, STELLA ARTOIS, FIFTH THIRD BANK and the many other local and national sponsors who believe in the IIFF message, who support the arts, and who seek potential customers with discerning tastes.
