A History of "Carmen".
presented in conjunction with the Sagamore Institute for Policy Research and the Indianapolis Opera.

John Clark from the Sagamore Institute will present a history of Bizet's "Carmen" and compare the socio-political climates that make it possible for a classic opera to make sense in a modern South Africa. Indianapolis Opera will present an ensemble performing several arias from "Carmen". Brian Owens will present the story of Dimpho di Khapone, the South African opera company who produced the Thursday Night Spotlight film, U-Carmen eKhayelitsha.
