NIGHT A SLIPPING DOWN LIFE CLOSING NIGHT DOGVILLE |
DOGVILLEwritten and directed by: Lars von Trier starring: Nicole Kidman, Harriet Andersson, Lauren Bacall, Jean-Marc Barr, Paul Bettany, Blair Brown, James Caan, Patricia Clarkson, Jeremy Davies, Ben Gazzara, Philip Baker Hall, John Hurt, Chloe Sevigny, and Stellan Skarsgard. distributed by: Lions Gate Films runtime: 177 minutes nation: Denmark / UK / US Dogville is the beginning of von Trier’s ambitious “America” trilogy, and tells the story of Grace (Kidman), a fugitive from the mafia, who stumbles into the small Rocky Mountain town for which the film was named. With urging from Tom (Bettany), the town’s self-appointed spokesman, the community agrees to hide her. In return, she is to assist them in their daily duties – harvesting apples in the orchard, babysitting the town’s children. When the mob begins to close in on the small town, however, the town's demands cross all lines of fair exchange. Grace learns, in the worst of ways, that kindness is relative. However, Grace may hold the final playing card in this game. Dogville
makes its Midwestern Regional Premiere at the Indianapolis
International Film Festival. |
